Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented mid-level Associate Attorney to join our in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will have experience defending cases involving consumer protection and data privacy laws, as well as knowledge of contract law. Experience in arbitration is a plus. In addition to litigation, this role will involve assisting with the drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts, as well as supporting the Legal Department in ensuring the company’s compliance with consumer protection laws. Some support of employment law matters may also be expected.

Responsibilities

Consumer Law:

  • Provide legal advice on compliance with consumer protection laws and regulations.
  • Assist in handling consumer complaints and disputes, including responding to inquiries and working with relevant departments to resolve issues.
  • Defend the company in consumer cases filed in arbitration with AAA, by, among other tasks, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, taking depositions, managing discovery, and taking cases to hearing.
  • Monitor changes in consumer protection laws and advise on necessary adjustments to company policies and practices. 

Contract Law:

  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various types of contracts, including vendor agreements, service contracts, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Ensure contracts comply with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Support the contract management process, including maintaining accurate records and managing contract renewals and expirations.
  • General In-House Counsel Responsibilities:
  • Conduct legal research and provide legal opinions on a variety of issues affecting the company.
  • Support the implementation of compliance programs and provide training to staff on legal issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel on specific projects and litigation, as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal trends and best practices relevant to the company's operations.

Qualifications

  • Juris doctor (JD) degree required from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar with a plenary license to practice in good standing required in at least one state.
  • 3 years’ legal experience, preferably in-house, required – with a focus on consumer litigation and law, and contract law.
  • Computer competency, including the use of a keyboard and ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Punctuality expected, ready to report to work on a consistent basis.
  • Attain and maintain high performance expectations on a monthly basis.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.
  • Use and navigate multiple computer systems with exceptional multi-tasking skills.
  • Remain calm and professional during difficult discussions.
  • Take constructive feedback.

Compensation Information

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for each position across the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This good faith pay range is provided in compliance with NYC law and the laws of other jurisdictions that may require a salary range in job postings. The salary for this position is $143,500 - $173,000.
